Readers, let’s be really honest: I’m no hair model. For most of my life, I was blessed with no-fuss, long hair that was mostly manageable. But I was in for a rude awakening after I became a mom. After my son was born, my hair had waves in weird places and grew coarse and (gasp!) even a little gray.
I took my woes to the hair-love experts at Wayzata’s Sil’Vie Hair Studio this summer, and was thoroughly wowed. Owner Silvia Zderchuk and her team of specialists worked together on a cut that was easy to wash and style (even while wrangling my 2-year-old) and a color that was fresh but natural.
What’s the secret to success for this little shop on Lake Street? In 2011, Zderchuk, who grew up in Russia, had seen enough of how other salons worked—she decided to open her own. She had “a dream of helping women find their best look through the complete look of color and extensions,” she says. “I realized how much of an impact hair can make, and give you so much confidence.” She hand-picked her team; each stylist has expertise in a certain niche. In fact, three different stylists worked on my hair. These ladies call themselves “a family;” they help out with each other’s clients and defer to each stylist’s area of expertise.
After nearly four hours in their chair, I felt like they’d given me a look that matched my truest self—now on the outside, too.
