Grand Old Day, Saint Paul’s unofficial kickoff to summer, is now “Grand Old Days.” The largest one-day festival in the Midwest is expanding to two days this year, with added events and attractions for the whole family to enjoy.
On Saturday, the street will be open for a full day of sidewalk sales, promotions and in-store events at the many retailers located along Grand Avenue.
“It’s a chance to get to know Grand Avenue businesses without the huge Grand Old Day crowds,” says Grand Avenue Business Association project manager Mary Cich.
There will also be carnival rides at Ramsey Middle School and live music at Billy’s on Grand and the Wild Onion to round out the first day.
On Sunday, the streets will be closed for the “full grand festival,” Cich says. Arrive early for the parade at 9:30 a.m., and then spend the day sampling treats from approximately 150 food vendors and exploring the festival’s four themed “districts.”
The Entertainment District (for ages 21 and older) includes six music stages; the Sports & Wellness District offers interactive games; the Family Fun District features a petting zoo and bounce houses, and the new Arts & Culture District showcases the cultural diversity of the Twin Cities with ethnic foods, artist demonstrations and performances.
