Each spring, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts draws thousands of children from the metro area to the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival, a weeklong event with several outdoor and indoor performances to highlight global music and more.
This year’s event, scheduled for May 26‒31, marks the 15th anniversary of the festival. During the week, students from local schools will participate in field trips to the Ordway and see performances by artists from the United States, Uganda, Scotland and other countries.
“The festival is a wonderful way for local children to connect with music and artistic acts from around the world,” says Dayna Martinez, artistic director of the festival. On the weekend, the event is open to the public, where children and their families can enjoy art exhibits, activities and musical performances on one of five indoor stages or the featured outdoor stage, located between Fifth and Sixth streets at Landmark Plaza.
