Minnetonka Children’s Book

A local math teacher adds children’s author to her resume.

When Rhonda Lundgren began reading to her own children, she was appalled at the lack of meter in the stories. “I couldn’t find the right rhythm to read it,” says Lundgren, who eventually realized, “Hey, I can do better than that!”

Five years and many revisions later, the Minnetonka Middle School East math teacher finally finished what she set out to do. Penelope Buys the Moon is Lundgren’s self-published tale of what happens when we put too much emphasis on buying material possessions and lose sight of what’s really important.

Lundgren’s niece—now 12 years old—inspired the book all those years ago when Lundgren found herself in the role of doting aunt. “I was the aunt buying her all these things,” she says with a laugh. Penelope Buys the Moon is available at Lundgren’s website, lightonpress.com.
