Minnetonka Center for the Arts 60th Anniversary

Minnetonka Center for the Arts fundraiser event.
A collection curated by Jim Dayton, architect of the Arts Center's current home in Wayzata.

Decades ago, the Ladies of the Lake organization was formed by lake-area women interested in art and art education. The women held classes in their basements on a rotating basis but eventually needed a bigger home as the organization grew.

It’s been 60 years since the Ladies of the Lake was incorporated as the Minnetonka Center for the Arts (Art Center), and the Art Center is celebrating its ability to serve more than 10,000 people each year with a fundraiser.

The center is acknowledging those who have made the Art Center possible, raising money for outreach programs and sharing dreams for the future, says executive director Roxanne Heaton. The celebration will include a band, food, live auction and reprise of the Art Center’s newest building architect, Jim Dayton, and his curated exhibit “Thirteen Minnesota Artists.” The goal is to raise $91,000 from the event for outreach programming.
