Local Lifeguards Keep Summer Safe

A Minnetonka summer is unlike any other. Long days spent at the beach, nights spent fishing on the lake and endless local entertainment, Minnetonka has it all. But these summer memories wouldn’t be possible without one special group of people: local lifeguards.

Lifeguard instructor Chris Whritenour shares insights into her blended learning lifeguard training program at Classic Lake Diving. This style of program offers face-to-face meetings as well as at-home videos and lectures so students can learn on their own time.

Lifeguards from Classic Lake Diving become American Red Cross certified and use their skills in summer jobs at Shady Oak beach, the YMCA and several country clubs throughout the area.

“The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is prevention. Through constant scanning and surveillance, hopefully potential accidents and injuries can be avoided,” says Whritenour.

Not only are the lifeguards of Classic Lake Diving prepared to keep swimmers safe, they look forward to the best time of the year: summer!
