Bev Leckie and Pam Chenevert founded their business, Paint Paper Scissors, together in September of 2017. They host painting parties at various venues—both public and private—in the lake area, where guests can create a work of art with some guidance and enjoy the company of friends and neighbors.
Leckie grew up near Lake Minnetonka and returned to the area after she was diagnosed with cancer. When she reached her cancer-free milestone, she knew she wanted to start working with art again and give others a chance to be creative, too.
“It makes you feel really good. People are so happy when they do this,” Leckie says. She and Chenevert like to focus on the creative experience that happens for all ages. Chenevert, who lives in Minnetonka, has a background in graphic design, working with local publishers on how-to books for children. “We try to educate as much as possible,” Chenevert says.
To expand their reach, Paint Paper Scissors has recently teamed up with Shorewood and Chaska parks to host events, including a papier-mâché camp, painting in the park and others. Chenevert is quick to add that no experience is necessary for guests. “This is fun art, not fine art,” she says.
