For the first time in a decade, the Minnetonka Yacht Club will host one of the region’s most prestigious regattas. Come cheer on 200 boats and 1,000 sailors for the Inland Lake Yachting Association’s (ILYA) annual Championship Regatta. Minnetonka was chosen to host the event as the oldest yacht club west of New York, founded in 1882.
Don’t miss what committee members call the most dramatic race: the A-Boat class. With 38-foot boats and seven-member crews, it promises to be an intense dash to the finish. The regatta will be held August 11–21. “Races are open to the public who can watch on the race course from private boats and spectator boats,” says Rick Kotovic, co-chairman of the regatta.
The ILYA’s Championship Regatta will feature the world’s top competitors and officials. “The regatta puts on some of the most enjoyable social events, with exceptional themes, venues, food, entertainment and organization,” says Tony Jewett, co-chairman of the regatta. —Caitlin Mitchell
