Before hitting the slopes this season, stock up on sunglasses to protect your eyes (and look stylish). We found two local sunglasses experts to recommend a few pairs that will take you from the slopes to après-ski with no work at all.
Jason Trucano of Excelsior’s Brevier Optical says a good fit is important when picking out a new pair of shades. An optician can help find you a good frame and make adjustments so they don’t rest on your cheeks.
Trucano recommended the Italian Rudy Project Magster ($225–$250) for male activewear because of the polarized lenses that reduce glare. These are also a great pair to combat fogging, which can hurt your vision. After the slopes, men should pick up the IC Berlin ($495), an extremely comfortable and super-durable pair that wrap around the face.
For women, the Rudy Project Rydon II ($225–$250) come with polarized lenses and excellent airflow to help with fogging, making it great for the outdoors. The Oliver Peoples Mande ($385) have a wider temple, which gives more coverage and also has a wider lens.
Anthony Bosca, the president of InVision Distinctive Eyewear, recommends men try the Robert Marc RMX ($750), a super-stylish pair with polarized lenses that will help with the brightness caused by sun and snow. The Maui Jim Maui Cat ($219) also feature polarizing but comes with a soft matte finish that feels good against your skin.
The Zero G ($460) for women are light and flexible, allowing for an easygoing fit while you hit the slopes. Bosca also recommends the Markus T ($420), which are flexible and can take a lot of rough handling.
