Since it began the first phase four years ago, the city of Wayzata has been working on plans for a lakefront revitalization, dubbed the Lake Effect Project, culminating in a new Signature Park. In May, the Wayzata city council adopted a resolution to accept a report by Civitas, the Denver-based urban design firm working on the design for Signature Park.
The report states that the Wayzata city council authorizes city staff to continue the planning process, exploring options for design and implementation, and deciding which parts of Civitas’ proposed design to pursue.
Wayzata interim city manager Doug Reeder (who has since been replaced by new city manager Jeffrey Dahl) explains that the resolution also directs the city council to set up a 501(c)(3) consortium, responsible for raising money to support the Lake Effect Project. Reeder says the $19 million project will rely on funding from the 501(c)(3) and private funding.
