Lace Up Your Sneakers for the Luck o’ the Lake 5K Run

The fourth annual Luck o’ the Lake 5K run on March 12 has it all: a kid-friendly, celebratory run along Lake Minnetonka, with community members dressed up in costumes, as well as a serenade by bagpipers.

Runners start at Excelsior Brewing, make their way through scenic downtown Excelsior and end at a tent party at Jake O’ Connor’s.

“It’s been a lot of fun the past three years,” says Laura Hotvet, executive director of the Excelsior–Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a great way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.”

The community seems to agree. Hotvet explains that the Luck o’ the Lake 5K has more than tripled its participation, growing from 400 runners in its first year to 1,400 runners last year. “It’s a wonderful community event, and all proceeds go back to the community through the chamber,” explains Hotvet.

For the first time this year, there will also be a 1-mile fun run for “kids and kids at heart.”
