The top 2020 girl' basketball recruit in the country—who just happens to be a junior at Hopkins High School—is headed to one of the nation’s best collegiate programs.
Paige Bueckers announced on Twitter she is taking her talents to the University of Connecticut.
“As a young kid, I always dreamed of playing basketball at the division 1 level, under Coach Geno Auriemma at the University of Connecticut,” she writes, “and now I take my first steps into realizing that dream.”
This year, Bueckers led Hopkins to an undefeated season and state championship. ESPN ranks the 5-foot-11 point guard as the No. 1 overall 2020 recruit.
The UConn women have won a record 11 National Championships, including four in a row from 2013 to 2016. This year, they are once again in the Final Four, playing top-seeded Notre Dame on Friday, April 5.
Auriemma has coached the program for 34 years, turning it into a national powerhouse.
Minnesota Lynx star Maya Moore and all-time WNBA leading scorer Diana Taurasi both played college ball at UConn.
