Each month, we feature one of the winning photos from our 2018 Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest. This month, we asked photographer Susan Brodeur to tell us about “Ski Me Down the Aisle,” which received first place in our People & Families category.
When and where did you take the photo?
Last August on Lake Minnewashta.
What kind of camera did you use?
A Canon 70-200 lens and Canon 5D Mark IV camera.
What’s your favorite thing about the image?
Adam Solomon had no idea what would be expected of him when he proposed to Jennifer Pickering (a Minnetonka High School grad). Jennifer grew up performing with her family in ski shows. She was often at the top of a pyramid. The couple decided they wanted a ski picture for their save-the-date. [There was] only one problem: Adam had never skied before. After a few off-the-dock, nose-dive starts, he caught on. I loved spending time with this darling talented couple, and I was very excited to share [the photo]. What I love the most about the picture is that Jennifer is wearing her mother’s wedding dress. To pull this picture off safely, it took 11 people! Two spotters, two jet ski drivers with lifeguards, a boat driver, spotter, photographer—and of course, the bride and groom.
What’s your photography background?
I’ve been a Minnetonka-based professional photographer since 2012. I specialize in high school senior portraits.
