St. David’s Center senior director of pediatric therapy and autism services Beth Fagin was recently named the 2015 Transformational Leader by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. She received the award for her 36 years of service leadership.
“I’ve pretty much dedicated my life to serving the underserved, mostly in the mental health services,” says Fagin. In April 2014, she put together a program in northeast Minneapolis for Somali children with autism. The program focuses on communication and community awareness of the disorder, which is statistically more prevalent in the Somali community compared to the general population.
“That’s what I’ve done in my career—reach across cultures and barriers and deliver services that make sense for the community,” Fagin says.
