The Germanic-American Institute kicks off summer with its annual Deutsche Tage celebration in Saint Paul. Originating in the 1960s in Highland Park, Deutsche Tage is now held at the Germanic-American Institute on Summit Avenue.
The weekend event begins with the Lederhosenlauf 5K race on Saturday morning, hosted in partnership with Charities Challenge, and is followed with a full day of German heritage celebration. “It’s a great summer party, and Saturday night is an Oktoberfest-style party,” says Jeana Anderson, executive director of the Germanic-American Institute. Sunday brings a day filled with family-friendly activities, including carriage rides, German gift vendors and, of course, traditional German fare. 8 a.m.–10 p.m. June 13, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. June 14; free admission, food and beverage costs vary; gai-mn.org
