Grapey Good

Instead of beer, try a new wine for your St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

If beer isn’t your thing—or if you’re just tired of hearing about it at this time of year—we’ve got seasonal wine picks from John Farrell, vice president of sales and merchandising for Haskell’s. “These wines will please a crowd, go with traditional Irish-American foods, and won’t cost you much,” Farrell says.

White: Serve a light, unoaked chardonnay or viognier.

Red: Try a cru beaujolais from Brouilly, Morgon or Fleurie.

And for an American twist, Farrell recommends a zinfandel from the Lodi region of California. “These tend to be more fruity than spicy, which goes well with traditional Irish fare.” Pick up a Mud Pie zin for around $11.
