Good Grief! A Charlie Brown Christmas at Stages Theater

Stages Theatre Company performs A Charlie Brown Christmas for 50th anniversary special.

For the first time ever, Stages Theatre Company brings A Charlie Brown Christmas to the stage. Closely adapted from the popular TV special, the storyline and music will be familiar to audience members, with a few extra surprises. Says artistic director Sandy Boren-Barrett, “When you select a beloved story like

A Charlie Brown Christmas to bring to life on stage, you give it a lot of thought. A program that has survived the test of time and is still so popular brings so much potential and excitement.”

Two fun events coincide with the production that will help bring the story to new audiences. The U.S. Postal Service will issue a limited-edition commemorative stamp to honor the story, available for the holidays. And a new Peanuts 3D movie hit the big screen in November, introducing Charlie Brown and his friends to a new generation of fans.

To say that Boren-Barrett is prepared to undertake the task of reimagining a TV show for the stage is an understatement. Her previous work includes directing the popular Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical for Stages last year. “I am more than ready for and excited by the challenge,” says Boren-Barrett.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this beloved tale, guests at Stages will enjoy live music in the lobby, trivia, an interactive display and a gallery of memorabilia to honor Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz prior to each performance, through a collaboration with the Hopkins Center for the Arts.
