Furnishing a Better World
The new nonprofit resale store on Lake Langdon is beautiful and big-hearted.
The Langdon, a high-end charitable resale shop in Mound, strives to “furnish a better world.” The shop, which opened less than a year ago, began when founder/director Claudia Lacy and a friend organized their church’s rummage sale in 2006 and came away from the experience feeling like they didn’t have enough time to sell the large number of donations they had received.
Eight years later, the Langdon is volunteer-run and takes donations of high-end furnishings, accessories and clothing, ultimately donating 100 percent of funds to local nonprofits, with 50 percent to a charity of the donor’s choice. The owners of the donated items can name any organization that is charitable, religious, scientific or educational as the recipient of the profit from the sale. The unique location of this store, a cabin on Lake Langdon, creates an experience that is as beautiful as it is benevolent. —MP
