Just before Valentine’s Day in 1981, Fleur de Lis opened its doors in Saint Paul’s Cathedral Hill neighborhood. “We’ve seen a lot of Valentine’s Days,” says owner Robin Rivard with a laugh. Located at its Selby Avenue spot since 1983, the flower shop offers an eclectic selection of flowers styled in European arrangements.
For those seeking a gift for their valentine, Rivard says roses, tulips, orchids and the heart-shaped anthurium flower are popular choices. Fleur de Lis will make deliveries on Valentine’s Day, even though it’s on a Sunday, and will be open each day during the week prior to February 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop will also offer a $100 bouquet giveaway through Instagram @fleurfresh.
During winter months, Rivard says flowers of any kind can bring a pop of color and fragrance to brighten the home. Larger tropical plants can also add a nice touch. “They offer fresh air, and it’s really nice to have something green to rest your eyes on,” she says.
