Festival Fun at Mound's Annual Spirit of the Lakes

Mound’s annual celebration is this month.

Mound’s Spirit of the Lakes Festival will include food, fun and fireworks spread out over two days at Surfside Park and Beach.

The festival is completely run by volunteers and is a nonprofit event, managed by eight local community members invested in bringing people together and creating memories.

Emily Peterson, coordinator for the Spirit of the Lakes Festival, says there are two special aspects this year. They are partnering with Westonka School District to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of their first graduating class, as well as launching Surfside Brew, a new beer created and distributed by Excelsior Brewery.

No matter what you’re craving, a variety of foods will be available, including traditional Midwestern brats and burgers as well as Greek, Mexican and sweet treats like ice cream and mini donuts.

On Friday afternoon , the festival kicks off with a beer-themed day, which includes Excelsior Brewery’s Wakesurf Bar and a craft beer fest, followed by a performance by the Devon Worley Band.

Day two of the festival includes historic boat cruises, kids activities at Al & Alma’s, as well as the grand parade and two performances by the Big Wave Dave Band and Rhino Band. The festival wraps up at midnight and ends with a bang with a fireworks show.
