Events for Literature Lovers Abound This Month

February 1 and 2
The Hopkins Art Center will host Pulitzer Prize–winning author Colson Whitehead as part of its Pen Pals Author lecture series. Whitehead has written for The New Yorker, the New York Times, and Harper’s. His most recent book, The Underground Railroad, received the National Book Award. Come and hear Whitehead speak about his work and his creative process, and perhaps ask a question or two. Check online for ticket details.

February 6
Author Ashley Shelby will stop by the Excelsior Library to read from her latest book, South Pole Station. The book was featured in Time Magazine’s “What to Read Now” section and was a New York Times Editor Pick. The accolades continue—South Pole Station was also named Best Book of Summer 2017 by the New York Post. It’s a charming story about the adventures an artist experiences during her trip to Antarctica (and as we all know, sometimes Minnesota in February feels a lot like Antarctica). Books will be available to purchase, and Shelby will sign copies.

All ages. Free. 6:30–8 p.m. Hennepin County Library-Excelsior.
