Cottagewood Craze

The beloved store opens for the season.

It’s a sign that summer has truly arrived in Minnesota: The Cottagewood Store flipped its “closed” sign to “open” on April 30.

The challenge each year is to be the first lucky person to enter the store. “What’s really neat about opening day is the anticipation, especially for kids. The kids line up at the crack of dawn,” says Rob Burke, president of the Cottagewood Community Foundation board.

The first Friday grill night will be June 3, and each weekly grill-out features a different event. Popular events in the past have included turtle races and pony rides, and after last year’s successful Cottagewood dog show, you can expect Deephaven’s dogs to be back to strut their stuff.

And while that sign flips back to “closed” on Halloween, new in 2017 will be a February Winter Fest event with a winter sports theme.
