Mother of two and Lake Minnetonka resident Anne Weatherhead always has a camera at the ready. Carefully stored in an accessible spot-- the dock-- her underwater Canon PowerShot D10 captures memories for her friends and family. Consumed with fishing contests, water tubing and picnic lunches, Weatherhead and her family, including husband John, sons JP (left) and William Weatherhead, along with her father Richard Root, spend their summers at their lake home on upper Lake Minnetonka on Shady Island. For the remainder of the year, the Weatherhead family lives in Tampa, Florida. Three years ago, they purchased their Minnesota home and have cherished their summers in the northland since. “We try to carry traditions, so that the kids will remember and have fun with it too,” she says. On May 30, 2012, Weatherhead reached for her lens to freeze another moment in time: her oldest son’s largest fish catch to date. JP, then 11 years-old, caught the Northern while dock fishing with his younger brother and grandfather. Although boat rides are common, the group fishes nightly off the dock, a spot where they find the most success. Weatherhead credits her interest in photography to her children. Her collection grows as her children do. She believes in keeping things simple and rarely edits or changes her photographs once they are taken. She finds joy in capturing significant moments in her children’s lives, and was grateful for her underwater camera that day. “Everyone was just so pleased for him,” Weatherhead recalls. “We were definitely proud of him, and he was proud of himself.”
