Calling All Anglers to Try Their Luck at the Annual Crappie Contest

It’s no secret that fishing is a big part of Minnesota culture. Whether you’re a frequent fisher, enjoy doing it occasionally or simply like to come along for the show, the Minnesota Bound Crappie Contest will be entertainment for all.

After 49 years of celebrating the sport, the Minnesota Bound Crappie Contest draws crowds in from all around Minnesota. Taking place at Lord Fletcher’s, people of all ages can come out and show off their fishing skills. At the end of the competition, each contestant weighs their crappie at the Lord Fletcher’s weight station.

All of the proceeds from the event go to Fishing for Life, which serves children, families and communities through fishing and outdoor programs.

Participants must be registered to be eligible for the big fish prizes and and other prize drawings at the end of the event. The big fish prizes are in the adult division for participants 16 and up and in the youth division for participants 15 and under, with the five largest crappies by weight.

Additionally, miscellaneous prizes are available, including shopping sprees, a Lake of the Woods trip and more. A grand prize is awarded to whoever comes closest to the “surprise weight,” a random weight selected by the tournament director prior to the weigh-in.

We all know how tough Minnesotans are, so regardless of the weather conditions, the Minnesota Bound Crappie Contest will be taking place at the scheduled date and time.

May 6 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. All ages. $5-$10. Minnesota Bound Crappie Contest, Lord Fletcher’s.
