The Cactus Blossoms play throwback country a la The Everly Brothers. In fact, brothers Page Burkum and Jack Torrey (an adopted stage name) are also a local product who cut their teeth with a Monday residency at the Turf Club—a taste of the Rio Grande from the Rio Mississippi.
They have since toured with Kacey Musgraves and appeared on A Prairie Home Companion. Easy Way is their latest release. The record kicks off with Burkum and Torrey’s pitch-perfect harmony on “Desperado.” “Please Don’t Call Me Crazy” is catchy as all get-out and features the duo’s penchant for clever wordplay. Other standout tracks include “I’m Calling You” and “Got a Lotta Love.”
At ten tracks and 35 minutes long, Easy Way will be a new favorite album before long. For fans of JD McPherson, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison.
