On August 15, grab your canoe, kayak or stand-up paddle board and head to Excelsior Beach Park for the second annual Big Island and Back paddle event, presented by Excelsior Brewing Co. The event, which has also held a ski version of the race each winter for the past three years, benefits the ICA Food Shelf and the Freshwater Society. Participants race across the lake in a fun-filled event that kids, adults and families alike can enjoy. And your skill level doesn’t need to be expert: The goal of the event is to build community and support great causes. Says race director Rick Carter, “We hope this event brings attention to the paddle craft, ICA and Freshwater.”
