Pam Jenoff is the queen of World War II-set fiction, and The Orphan’s Tale lives up to her reputation. Fans of The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah will want to check out this novel about an unlikely friendship between two women both hiding out in a traveling circus in World War II Europe.
While Noa and Astrid start out at odds, they are paired together for an act, and a deep bond slowly grows between them as they realize they both are alone and hide deep betrayals by loved ones. Jenoff pulls readers into an unusual setting for a World War II novel but crafts the highest of stakes and will keep readers invested in the fates of Noa and Astrid.
TIP: This historical fiction would
be a great selection for a book club.
