“People & Families” Winner of 2016 Lens on Lake Minnetonka Competition

A picture-perfect memory captured by a local photographer.

“Henry, look over here!” Nelson Hill called out to his friend Dylan’s 1-year-old son Henry as he ran gleefully toward Lake Minnetonka. Hill, with an extensive background in filmography and photography, didn’t hesitate to grab his digital Hasselblad H5D camera to capture a moment of simplicity on the lake.

Hill’s photo, Father, Son and Sailboat, took first place in our 2016 Lens on Lake Minnetonka photo contest in the People & Families category for perfectly capturing the joy families—especially young kids—find at the lake every summer. This image looks out toward Big Island.

After growing up in Eagan, Hill moved to New York, where he was in a two-year directing program at New York Film Academy. He then moved to Los Angeles to work in film production for commercials, photo shoots and music videos for artists including Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg and Blink-182. “My passion for photography grew when I moved back to Lake Minnetonka and started my own photography company,” says Hill.
